The day opened with a welcome coffee and networking session, followed by introductory remarks from Alain De Greef (Film Matters), Thierry Laermans (FCB) and Jonas Van Ransbeeck (Pathé Sint-Niklaas), who all set the scene.
The morning session featured a series of presentations. Laura Houlgatte, UNIC CEO and Chair of the European Audiovisual Observatory, provided an overview of European cinema trends, the trade organisation’s main operating areas and the work of the European Audiovisual Observatory. Thibaut Quirynen, General Coordinator at Cineville, presented the results of Cineville in Beligum, while Ron Sterk, President of the Dutch Cinema Association (NVBF), shared insights into the Dutch market.
Following a networking lunch, the afternoon session focused on a range of industry topics. Paul Laurent, General Advisor SPF-FOD Economie and Head of the Belgian Anti-Online Piracy Office (BAPO), together with Benoît Cordemans of DAZN, addressed efforts to combat audiovisual piracy. Mélanie Canivet and her colleagues presented their seat ticketing tool OZZAK. Charlélie Van Hees of the Cinema and Audiovisual Centre shared the latest updates on Goed Gezien/Bien Vu film rating initiative. Finally, Marie Vanden Clooster, Group Account Director of Wavemaker Agency, gave insights into consumer behaviour and cinema marketing.
Throughout the day, attendees also viewed trailers of upcoming film releases and continued discussions during the breaks and closing drink. The event provided a useful platform for industry professionals to connect, share insights, and reflect on the future of Belgian cinema. UNIC looks forward to the next edition!
