UNIC at the 42nd meeting of the European Audiovisual Observatory Advisory Committee


UNIC was pleased to take part in the 42nd meeting of the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) Advisory Committee, which took place on 14 March 2023 in Strasbourg, France.

The meeting was chaired by Pauline Durand-Vialle, CEO of the Federation of European Film Directors (FERA) and gathered 40 participants representing the film and audiovisual industry.

A pivotal discussion was held regarding the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the film and audiovisual industry. Ad Co Members shared insights, exploring both the opportunities and challenges posed by AI and identifying potential avenues for further research and legislation.

Updates were then provided on the mid-term strategy spanning 2024 to 2028. Progress on finalised and ongoing projects were highlighted. Of note was a planned study on “Cinema exhibitors in current national policies” which will come out in May 2024. UNIC looks forward to this report which will be presented in Cannes.

Finally insights were shared on the expectations for the next AdCo Chair, as Pauline Durand-Vialle (FERA) has reached the term limit. UNIC would like to express their gratitude for her excellent work.
