And then we danced screening

On 4 November UNIC and partners from the AV sector held a première screening of the Swedish-Georgian film And then we danced.

The event was organised by UNIC in collaboration with Europa Distribution (The Network of Independent Distributors), The International Federation of Film Distributors' Associations (FIAD) and The Federation of European Film Directors (FERA). The screening could also not have taken place without the support of Cinemien, the Belgian distributor of the film, as well as the BOZAR who hosted us for the evening.

A hundred attendees, representing a wide range of policymakers and stakeholders from the European film value-chain, joined us for a reception before the screening, during which Christine Eloy (General Manager of Europa Distribution) highlighted how creators, distributors and exhibitors work hand in hand to ensure that films are released and seen as intended by their directors. She also introduced And then we danced, a Swedish-Georgian production directed by Levan Akin. The film looks into the gender-conservative dance world of Georgia and explores the topics of love and homophobia through the eyes of Merab, a dancer played by Levan Gelbakhian.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to play a small role in the film's life and contribute to promoting it to European audiences. The film, which was first screened at the Cannes Festival Directors' Fortnight, has been met by rave reviews in the last few weeks and was nominated by Sweden as its candidate for best international feature film award for the Oscars. We would like to wish And then we danced all the best for the coming months!

We very much look forward to organising another screening soon!
