Monday 25 April was the International Day, moderated by Mark Way, CEO, Odeon. It was kicked-off by International Keynote Addresses from Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR INOX Limited and Founder, PVR Cinemas and Mark Viane, President, International Theatrical Distribution, Paramount Pictures. This was followed by a special Industry Address:Movie Theatres Aren’t Going Anywhere by Jeffrey Cole, Director of the Center for the Digital Future.
UNIC then attended the following the sessions: “Hidden Figures” on box office and trends, “Globally Speaking: A Look at the Global Marketplace” on the state of the industry and its future, and “Movie Marketing: Welcome to the Digital Age” on digital marketing.
On the afternoon of 24 April, UNIC and Film Expo Group co-hosted a CineEurope reception which gathered more than 100 colleagues.
On Tuesday 25 April, John Fithian, CEO and President of NATO, delivered his state of the industry speech. He focused on the value of theatrical exclusivity and how essential movie supply was to attract all audiences. He was followed by Charles Rivkin, CEO of the Motion Picture Association, who celebrated a rebounding box office and promised more films on more screens.
Over the following days, UNIC met with partners, distribution and exhibition colleagues in one-to-one meetings, and attended various panel discussions and slate presentations.
