UNIC and FIAD screening of Alma Viva on 20 March 2023

UNIC and FIAD organised a private screening of the award winning Portuguese-French film Alma Viva at the Palace Cinema in Brussels on 20 March.

The screening brought together a range of policymakers and stakeholders from the audiovisual sector. The event presented a great opportunity to enjoy a fantastic European film on the Big Screen.

Alma Viva is a Portuguese - French production, directed by French writer-director Cristèle Alves Meira. It has been nominated for numerous awards including the Critic’s Week Grand Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, and also has multiple wins including the Prix Du Jury at Marrakech International Film Festival 2023. Alma Viva tells the story of little Salomé who like every summer, returns to a family village in the mountains. Suddenly her beloved grandmother dies. While the adults are fighting over the funeral, Salomé is haunted by the spirit of the one who was considered a witch.

Laura Houlgatte, UNIC CEO and Robert Heslop, Secretary General of FIAD, introduced the film and shared a few words on film distributors and cinemas and the need to promote and celebrate cinema-going as well as supporting key principles such as territoriality.

Thank you to Palace Cinema who kindly hosted us for the evening.

Looking forward to our next screening!
