"I am still captured by the diversity and imagination of stories told and presented on the Big Screen."

For the twelfth edition of Big Screen Feature - providing a behind-the-scenes look at the world of cinema exhibition through the eyes of professionals themselves - Christof Papousek (CFO & Co-owner, Cineplexx Group) discusses the job itself and the value of the Big Screen.

Describe your typical day at work
Getting up at 4:30 am in order to catch the flight at 6:30 to travel to one of the many cities where we operate cinemas, with the intention to cover the responsibility of being an interface between our company, our employees, suppliers and visitors as well as the real estate landlords, where our cinemas are an integrated part of their development. A couple of days later, I return back home to process all of the experiences from our theatre sites across Middle and South Eastern Europe. A day without traveling is covered by many meetings with inhouse departments as well as third parties around our headquarters.

The moment you fell in love with the Big Screen?
The first time I went to a cinema was to watch Bernard and Bianca – The Rescuers. I was impressed by the colours and the characters on the Big Screen and from this moment on I always loved to watch movies at the theatre. Going to the cinema, either as a child, a teenager and also now as an adult - with my friends and family but also with my kids - I am still captured by the diversity and imagination of stories told and presented on the Big Screen.

The best thing about the cinema experience?
When the lights go off and the movie starts, you take part in the story and are fully dedicated to the movie. There are no other influences which draw your attention away and therefore you can enjoy a valuable few hours in which you can travel to another place and time.
