Describe your typical day at work.
As an independent exhibitor, I’m always curious about how the public receives our programming, so I pay close attention to box office results throughout the day. Mondays are particularly busy for me, starting with reviewing the weekend's results on Sunday to plan the upcoming week’s films and new releases. I also need to confirm and coordinate any special events for that week.
Programming an independent cinema mainly involves working closely with my team to adjust daily showtimes, ensuring the website has accurate information, and making sure the marketing department has everything they need to create new posters, flyers, and social media content. To unwind after such a busy day, I usually go swimming on Monday nights.
The moment you fell in love with the Big Screen?
As a fourth-generation exhibitor, the Big Screen has always been a part of my life. In fact, we lived above the cinema for years, which made it easy to watch all kinds of films at any time. Some of my dearest memories are from when my grandma would take me to every possible screening, from cine-clubs to new releases. I remember watching films like The Sound of Music, Tootsie, La Gifle, La Cage aux Folles, Gone with the Wind, The Towering Inferno, and The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe. Interestingly, I can still recall the cinema and auditorium where I watched each of those films!
The best thing about the cinema experience?
The Big Screen is the best place to fully enjoy a film. It’s such a special moment to enter a cinema and disconnect from your phone, social media, and any distractions, allowing yourself to fully immerse in the experience. You sit down, relax, and prepare for a unique experience with a crowd of strangers beside you. I must admit, this remains an irreplaceable experience for me.
