UNIC Host Exclusive Screening of Amrum at Cinéma Palace

On 13 April 2026, the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) hosted an exclusive screening of the German film Amrum, directed by Fatih Akin. The film follows a young boy growing up on the remote North Sea island of Amrum during the final years of the Second World War, as he navigates a harsh and changing environment shaped by isolation, loyalty, and survival. It explores the tension between innocence and ideology as the war reshapes his understanding of the world.

Held at Cinéma Palace in Brussels, the event welcomed nearly 100 policymakers and stakeholders from across the film and European institutions.

Attendees were first invited to join a networking cocktail reception. Before the screening, Sonia Ragone of UNIC reflected on the vital economic, cultural and social role of cinemas, underscoring the importance of key principles such as territoriality that support Europe’s vibrant and diverse film ecosystem. Simon Wullens of Lumière Benelux introduced the film and underlined the enduring importance of experiencing cinema on the big screen.

Huge thanks to Cinéma Palace for hosting this memorable evening. We thank Lumière as distributor of the film and a special thank you to all attendees who joined us for this exceptional screening.

See you at the cinema!
