UNIC screening of System Crasher - 2 March 2020

On 2 March, UNIC and partners from the AV sector held a première screening of the German film System Crasher in Brussels.

The event was organised by UNIC in collaboration with the LUX Prize, the European Parliament's film award. The screening could also not have taken place without the support of Cinemien, the Belgian distributor of the film, as well as the BOZAR who kindly hosted us for the evening.

A wide range of policymakers and stakeholders from the European film value-chain joined us for a reception before the screening, during which Laura Houlgatte, UNIC CEO, said a few words on the value of cinema exhibition - highlighting the industry's successful results across the EU in 2019 - and introduced the film. Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, it tells the story of Benni, a so-called 'system crasher' - a child who doesn't respect any rules - slipping through the cracks of the German Child Protective Services. We follow her through her wild and energetic journey, as she tries to find love and balance.

The film was the German submission for the 92nd Academy Awards and has won multiple prizes in recent months, following a particularly successful release in Germany last September! The main actress, Helena Zengel, will soon be starring alongside Tom Hanks in the next film by Paul Greengrass.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to play a small role in the film's life and contribute to promoting it to European audiences and we very much look forward to organising another screening soon!
