On 16 October, UNIC took part in a panel discussion dedicated to cinemas and heritage films. The panel featured Guillaume Bachy (President, AFCAE), Christian Bräuer (President, CICAE), Nadège Lauzzana (Presidente, ADRC), and Richard Patry (President, FNCF) and was moderated by Julien Marcel (Founder and Executive manager, The Boxoffice Company)
Speakers were asked to reflect on the accessibly and diversity of heritage works, on how to reach out to young audiences, and on support measures, among other things. All expressed enthusiasm and optimism, agreeing that cinemas were an ideal place to discover or rediscover classics, from Modern Times to Shrek!
UNIC then attended a distributor/exhibitor lunch and had meetings with professionals on the Market. On the following day, UNIC attended a presentation on “A.I use case: Tools developed by INA to promote its audiovisual heritage” and then a roundtable on “How can the EU strengthen its policies and programmes in favour of the heritage sector ?” which featured Aurélie Champagne (Deputy Director in charge of Legal and European Affairs, CNC), Maria-Silvia Gatta (Creative Europe MEDIA Project Manager, EU Commission), Bérénice Honold (Advisor to the Director General / International Affairs, FFA), moderated by Florian Krieg (Editor-in-Chief, Le Film français). The participants highlighted existing support measures for heritage films and discussed how accessibility and circulation of works could be improved – via funding programmes like MEDIA but also legislative measures like the Audiovisual Media and Services Directive- as well as the issue of rights retention.
