Describe your typical day at work
For the time being, all cinemas are closed and people are working from home (if they are working) and nothing is like it used to be. I am dreaming about a typical busy day at work, when I arrive the FilmHouse on my bike and jump into an ongoing cinema project and try to visualise some of the ideas I have worked out in my head since yesterday and send them to the architect and the cinema manager and hope they like them.
Before I finish this, someone will probably have called me or sent me an email asking for advice about something else. And maybe Guillaume (UNIC) has sent an email asking for feedback, and my colleague Jorgen is planning a regional seminar and wants me to make a presentation… It is soon time for lunch…
After lunch, a cinema manager calls and wants to buy new seating and we have a long discussion where I try to convince her that they can improve the experience and make more money if they reduce the number of seats and upgrade comfort. While we are talking, I am calculating different alternatives, but she is hard to convince. More coffee and phone calls and emails and calculations and, hopefully, there is a little time left to perform some finishing touches on my book "How To Design A Cinema Auditorium" that I am writing for UNIC (to be published very soon). I might have to do that from home later - but I love it. Every day!
The moment you fell in love with the Big Screen?
It is not a moment, but a love that has grown, developed and changed since I was a little boy and one that will never die!
The best thing about the cinema experience?
The cinema experience starts when you decide to go to a cinema to see a film (or even before that), and hopefully ends with a good memory that last for a long time and makes you want to come back. All elements in-between are important to enhance the experience that (usually) culminates when you sit in your (good) seat in the dark room watching a (good) film, screened as intended by the filmmaker, and surrounded by people who share your good experience.
